Ear-worn sound therapy devices

ear worn device

Many of our Habituation Retraining Therapy (HaRT) patients benefit from an ear-worn sound therapy device, for comfort and convenience, while getting relief from their ringing ears. These devices come in several different styles. We can help you determine whether one of these may be a good option for you as part of your treatment plan.

It is important to recognize that a device is only part of the overall HaRT treatment program. Information about how and when to use it, what to expect and when, and adjustment issues will be covered by your TTS audiologist during your patient education sessions.

Ear-worn sound therapy devices:

  • For those with or without hearing loss
  • Critical component of HaRT treatment program
  • Small and discreet
  • Advanced digital technology
  • Brands: Oticon, Widex, Starkey, Resound, Siemens, Phonak, GHI
  • Available in different colors and styles
  • Customized to you

Choosing a Device

We know that statistically, most tinnitus sufferers also have some hearing loss. But individually, there is great variation with respect to which issue each patient feels is most bothersome. For those who suffer most from their tinnitus, an ear-worn device without amplification may suffice; For those who also suffer from bothersome hearing loss, an ear-worn device with amplification can be helpful in addressing both conditions at the same time.

Tinnitus With Hearing Loss: Struggling to hear can be stressful. And since hearing loss can be gradual, sometimes people don’t realize how much sound they are actually missing. A hearing test will give your TTS audiologist more information. Then together you will discuss your needs and preferences, including the degree to which hearing loss bothers you and if appropriate, how you may benefit from a dual (amplification and tinnitus masking) device. Amplification can help by allowing you to hear more surrounding sounds, enabling better hearing and clarity and easing communication in general. By hearing more of the sounds around you, you may also find it easier to reduce the focus on your tinnitus. The built-in tinnitus therapy feature generates a customized sound to promote relaxation and habituation, when used as part of the HaRT program. Your TTS audiologist can tell you about the different therapeutic sounds available, which vary by device and manufacturer.

Dual devices are available in three technology levels. Financing is available through Care Credit.

  • Premium: $2999 - $3399 per ear
  • Advanced: $2499 - $2799 per ear
  • Standard: $1999 - $2299 per ear

Tinnitus Without Hearing Loss: If relieving your tinnitus is your sole goal, and hearing loss is not an issue for you, then the Tranquil II Sound Generator may be a good choice. This is a popular ear-worn device that plays white and pink noise, which many tinnitus sufferers find soothing.

  • Tranquil II: Call for pricing. This is a significantly less expensive option since it does not address hearing loss.

What People Have to Say About Our Tinnitus Treatment

Tinnitus help

I went to so many places... No one that I talked to was able to do anything with the tinnitus. I was told I couldn’t get a hearing aid, that it wouldn’t help or that I needed two hearing aids when my problem was just with one. I’ve already experienced a time where my tinnitus was practically, totally gone. This is a great program!

Tinnitus relief

Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you. [My wife’s] sleep was so much more improved with the sound generator in use (we set it to the ocean setting). She only woke up once in a semi panic, which is so much better than she has been since this whole situation started. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness, support and concern. This gives us great hope that in fact there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
