FORM - Journey Closer

Some of the newest sounds to emerge from the growing
praise and worship movement in Australia and New Zealand are
the aggressive, guitar-driven melodies found of the New Zealand-based
band FORM. With a heart for the youth culture, FORM's music is
aimed at bringing a new worship sound to a younger generation.
"I feel like young people often miss out when it comes
to church and worship," shares FORM worship leader Dean
Rush. "Most churches aim at an adult audience, but I wanted
to see young people worshiping God and finding their place."
Dean decided to pull together a smaller group of musicians
from his larger worship team at Christian City Church in Auckland,
New Zealand. He formed a more musically aggressive worship band
that began to create songs specifically intended to direct youth
into a time of worship with God.
"Journey Closer is about young people finding God, building
a relationship and drawing closer to Him," Dean explains.
"We really wanted a big sound with energy and emotion -
but with a worship vibe to it."
The album's tracks include "Broken," a reflection
of how life would be old and broken without Jesus. "Wait
On You," taken from Psalms, touches on the concept of waiting
on the Lord. "Ha Hei Beach," named after a small beach
just outside of Auckland, New Zealand, is a song about the beauty
of creation and the creator.
" 'Redemption Day' explains how we are all captives to
sin, which separates mankind from God," Dean explains. "This
song was actually written on our American tour, where we heard
a lot of history from the locals in the south. It reminded us
that no matter when we live - whether during the Civil War, the
years of slavery, to the present day - sin separates us from
God and causes us to live out of selfish motives. It makes us
stand in conflict with each other rather than stand together.
But one day God will come and sin will be overcome forever. As
the lyric to the song says, 'I will walk away from sin in Redemption
Day and I will live my life with you in that day.' "
